  • HISTORY?s Blockbuster Show - Pawn Stars Topped the Rating Chart as Audiences Warm-up to Factual entertainment genre

Submitted by ITV Production on May 30, 2012

Mumbai: HISTORY TV18 continues to rule the TVR chart with its show ?Pawn Stars? tops the genre with a commendable 0.18 TVR. Out of top 10 programmes of the genre, 5 are on History TV18.

What?s interesting to note is that each of these shows belongs to a different sub-genre within Factual Entertainment, which is indicative of HISTORY TV18?s promise of having differentiated & a variety of programming through superlative content.

Pawn Stars - a reality series that showcases the lifestyle & work of pawnbrokers in Las Vegas Chasing Mummies, the series follows legendary archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass as he pursues one of the most challenging and exciting jobs in the world: discovering new archaeological finds while managing digs throughout Egypt. While ?Invention Intervention? features innovative product ideas.

The success of HISTORY TV18?s sub-genres is a noteworthy point particularly because over the last few years the Factual Entertainment genre has been dominated by a heavy dose of ?survival? based shows by other genre channels, which incidentally have considerable representation in this weeks list.

Moreover, this also indicates audience preference for variety & differentiated content, values that have formed the bed-rock of HISTORY?s novel programming approach. This coupled with the fact that HISTORY TV18?s continues to lead the genre in Time Spent per Viewer, highlighting stickiness towards its varied content.

The channel which created history by becoming the leader in the factual entertainment genre in 1Mn+ towns including metros continued its domination this week with 30% market share* vis-?-vis Discovery?s 27% and Nat Geo?s 15%. HISTORY TV18?s launch has also helped grow the genre by an unprecedented 60%.(*Source: SEC CS AB 15+, 1 Mn+ towns, All days, 0600-2400 hrs)
