MUMBAI: Lakme and IMG will be organising two Lakme Fashion Weeks in 2006 and every year thereafter. The Fall /Winter Week will be held from 28 March - 1 April, 2006 and the Spring/Summer Week in September-October 2006.
The decision was taken today following suggestions from the participating designers and buyers for the inaugural Lakme Fashion Week for Fall/Winter collections. This will enable the endeavour of designers and buyers to double the business opportunities by capturing both seasons for the domestic and international markets.
Lakme Fashion Week (LFW), a joint initiative between Lakme and IMG, has been conceived and created with an aim to integrate India into the global fashion world.
Lakme Lever vice president Anil Chopra said, "We have taken this decision in our inaugural year following the suggestions from designers and buyers. This is a reiteration of our long-term commitment to the growth of the fashion industry in India."
IMG senior vice president and IMG-TWI South Asia managing director Ravi Krishnan said, "Lakme Fashion Week will be a "Ready-to-Wear" Fashion Week in, which the participating designers will have the freedom to show their collections at price points they have determined. This is a positive move, adopting international norms at major fashion weeks."
Further, based on inputs from the designer community, Lakme Fashion Week has, for the first time in India, also decided to remove any price point restrictions on designers showing on this platform.
