MUMBAI: Director Ang Lee‘s Life of Pi will be released in India on 21 November, ahead of its worldwide opening.
According to Fox Star Studios, the distributor of the film in India, it will be one of the biggest releases of all time for a Hollywood film in India, with more than 1000 screens. It will occupy around 350 screens in 3D in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Life of Pi is based on Yann Martel‘s Booker prize winning novel. The film centres an Indian boy Pi, a zookeeper‘s son who finds himself in the company of a hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck sets them adrift in the Pacific Ocean.
Lee had chose 17 year old Delhite Suraj Sharma to essay the role of Pi. He has no previous acting experience and was cast following an audition of over 3000 young men.
The rest of the cast include artistes like Tabu, Irrfan Khan and Gerard Depardieu among others.
