This title was later taken up by scores of other sovereign rulers of India.

Vikramaditya was a brave prince. He was also learned in all the sastras and was a master of music, dance and all the arts. When he became king, he made his brother Bhatti his minister. Bhatti was a very learned and wise man. Under their rule, the people were prosperous and happy.

Vikramaditya built a city there and called it Ujjain after Kali's name. Afterwards he fought many battles, and enlarged his kingdom. Vikramaditya ruled long. He made a name for himself as a good and wise ruler. The tales of Vikram and the vampire Betaal are very famous in Indian literature.
