MUMBAI: Advent Computer Services Ltd will soon introduce its interactive TVs to the market, according to a press release dated 11 August. With this people can get access to applications such as internet, web surfing, email, chat, video on demand, voice over IP, games, home banking and home education using their existing television set.
The release stated that while most home in the country have television sets, hardly any have personal computers. Interactive TV will come at an affordable price for a majority of these TV viewers.
The interactive TV area is a virgin market in India as yet. According to the release, there are nearly 90 million TVs and over 50 million cable TV connections in India.
As for the market, while there are suppliers of different components of the solution in Interactive TV there does not exist a single player capable of delivering a total end-to-end solution.
Advent has tied-up with CCG Global Ltd for acquiring state-of-the-art technology for information appliances including Set-Top Boxes (STB), the release said. The company is currently negotiating with CCG to provide the entire range of technologies as a one-stop-shop solution provider in India.
Sources said, Advent is also in the process of outsourcing the technology management issues to a leading technology management company in the USA, the release stated. They are also negotiating with a player in the cable TV industry for sale of their technologies and products.
