SET, police launch initiative for citizens to fight crime

MUMBAI: It was only in May that Sony Entertainment Television (SET) launched its reality show Crime Patrol (CP)from the Cinevistaas stable. The show received a positive response from viewers because it created awareness about the menace of crime, the channel had said earlier.
Now, SET in association with the Indian police, has taken things to the next level. The two parties have announced an interactive initiative, wherein alert citizens can report crimes and help the police catch the guilty.
Viewers can SMS CP at 2525 or call the helpline 91-22-2262011. Through this number, they can contact Mumbai's police commissioner RS Sharma. The show which airs on SET every Friday at 10:30 pm will have reminders of the calls received.
According to SET executive vice president Sunil Lulla, "In addition to our sustained efforts to offer wholesome entertainment to viewers, our real life action series Crime Patrol has created a widespread awareness among Indian citizens. We are proud to join hands with the Indian police to help eradicate crime. We encourage our viewers to do their bit to support the Indian Police Force."
The show's director S Subramanium says that the ultimate message in CP is that crime never pays. Recently, the show dealt with the Mumbai bomb blasts. The show's anchor Diwakar Pundir took viewers through the damage that was caused due to the blast.
