CANNES: With a day left for MipCom 2003 to close, Reed Midem distributed statistics of attendance for one of the topmost television programme markets in the world.
The number of exhibiting companies was up 4.72 per cent to 1,243 from 1,187 in 2002, while the number of countries exhibiting was up to 51 from 49 last year.
The number of registered companies was also up to 2,734 from 2,708 last year, showing a growth of 0.98 per cent.
The number of participants was however down to 10,040 from 10,294 last year. But Reed Midem television division director Paul C Johnson expects this number to go up. "We have a day to go as yet, and I expect the participants to overtake last year's numbers," he says.
Johnson, however, adds that the organisation was going to focus on having a China Day at MipTV in March end. He also says, MipTV would focus on the advertising segment.
"We have had participation from BBH and Universal McCann and that will only go up. We will have sessions on product placement, sponsorship and bartering among others," Johnson points out. "We expect a lot of interest from this community in the coming year," he says.
