CALIFORNIA: Close-up shots will be the name of the gme for the Academy Awards! Now films buffs tuning in to the most important awards ceremony of the year will get to see their favourite stars more clearer than ever before. The Academy Awards ceremony on 24 March will be broadcast on US network ABC in high-definition (HD) TV for the first time.
A Reuters report indicates that though ABC has experimented with using HD cameras for the red carpet arrivals, this year only the awards themselves will be in HD, though a brief roundup of highlights from the red carpet that is part of the actual awards show will also be broadcast in high-definition.
ABC had also broadcast the Super Bowl which took place last Sunday in HDTV. In India, Star Movies will once again air the Oscars live on 24 March - the day after the cricket World Cup is over. Expect a spurt in viewership if the weep fest Devdas scores a nod in the foreign language film category.
