NEW DELHI: The government constituted inter-ministerial group (IMG) comprising officials from the information & broadcasting ministry, the law ministry and the department of company affairs met in the capital today to discuss media policy.
The Star News issue was one of the subjects on the agenda, I&B ministry officials said.
The IMG reiterated the fact that editorial control of news must rest with with Indians. The deliberations are still to continue and no decisions have been taken as yet, the officials pointed out.
After the IMG has sifted through related issues, the government is likely to set up a group of ministers (GoM) panel to examine the Star News case and media policies in general.
According to government officials, though the formation of the GoM has not yet been confirmed, it may be done so as to look into media issues thoroughly, especially in the light of the controversy that Star News has generated.
The officials also indicated that once the GoM, if formed, had deliberated on the matter related to the media, it would be taken up by the Cabinet too.
The GoM is likely to include representatives from the department of space and ministries of information and broadcasting, home, law and finance.
Star News has been given a two-week extension so that the government has enough time to go through the replies filed to the queries it raised.
