MUMBAI: The Delhi High Court has dismissed the chargesheet filed against four Aaj Tak scribes, who last year stage-managed the entry into Parliament of then union minister Shatrughan Sinha look alike Balbir Singh Rajput.
The Aaj Tak journalists had carried out the exercise to highlight the lax security within the Parliament building. Delhi HC Justice RC Chopra quashed the case "for want of sanction to prosecute."
According to an agency report, Justice Chopra dismissed the case on the ground that the police did not seek mandatory sanction from the State as required under Section 196(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code to proceed against the accused journalists.
The "sting" operation was carried out by the Aaj Tak journalists on 7 August 2003. The Sinha look-alike had breached security at Parliament and walked in pretending to be the then shipping minister. A security official and two assistants were subsequently suspended.
When contacted, the channel spokesperson declined to comment on the issue.
