MUMBAI: This is a good news for video companies concerned about the menace of increasing piracy. In a raid carried out at Eros CD Center - an outlet at Veer Nariman Road in downtown Mumbai yesterday 24 February the anti-piracy team of Shemaroo Video seized over 700 pirated DVDs.
An FIR has been filed against the owner of the shop. The raid happened after initial surveys and warnings, which the owners ceased to heed. With the help from Senior Inspector Sadashiv Patil who assigned PSI Karpe and two constables to conduct the raid, pirated DVDs of recent releases like Hulchul, Aitraaz, Dil Maange More, Elaan were caught in the raid.
Incidentally, Shemaroo is releasing the original DVD of Elaan today. Other pirated copies of English films like Alexander, Ray, Oceans Twelve etc. were also seized in this raid.
The Shemaroo anti-piracy team carries out various vigilance activities gathering information, surveillance and warning the pirates. The team also gives information about dealing in legitimate products and educates on the consequences of dealing in pirated video products. Only when they cease to heed to all the warnings that Shemaroo raids the outlet and takes action against the pirates.
Having an end-to-end objective in mind, Shemaroo has stated that it believes that fighting anti-piracy will gradually increase the legitimate home video market. Increased revenues can be shared with other people involved in the entertainment industry, which will also help the government get more taxes bringing a decrease in the black economy.
