MUMBAI: One of Viacom18's Vile Parle office buildings was under the cosh as demonstrators entered the premises today as protests reached fever pitch in various parts of the city. The company’s office, which is just off the Western Express Highway, witnessed a march of angry protesters. The attendant police brought situation under control and nobody was hurt in the incident. Vehicles were forced to drive on the wrong side on the highway as they were turned back from main signal adjacent to the office.
"Nothing untoward happened. The police stepped in at the right time and got things under control. Several employees were working from home anyway and quite a few left after the incident," said a source. There was no property damage either.
Around the city, BEST buses and auto rickshaws were wantonly stopped with passengers even being bullied into getting off in sporadic instances. Train operations were also affected.
