ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has announced ESPN Star Sports Scholarships for Hong Kong's Young Athletes. The three-year scholarships worth HK$15,000 each will be awarded to two young promising athletes in Hong Kong.
This is the first time ESS has awarded scholarships to athletes in Hong Kong. The recipients of the scholarships will be decided by the judging panels for the PowerPhone Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards and will be presented in an awarding ceremony in March 2002.
On announcing the ESS Scholarships, ESS Managing Director Rik Dovey said: "Besides bringing top-class sports action on screen, ESS is dedicated to sports development in Asia. In India, we host the School Quiz which has aroused and grown the interest of students on sports. It has attracted over 800 schools across India in the last two years. In Singapore, we also offer ESS Scholarships for Young Bowlers to encourage the development of bowling in the country. This ESS Scholarships for Hong Kong Young Athletes is another example of our corporate commitment to the development of sport in Hong Kong."
