MUMBAI: After unraveling the news of two more action packed movies slated for Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spiderman franchise, Webb has sent another shocker about the story for the upcoming 2014 sequel.
It seems with a change of mind; Webb has decided to slice off the character of Mary Jane Watson played by the Descendant star, Shailene Woodley in the second instalment, focusing more on the Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) relationship.
As stated by Webb, "I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her."
Despite shooting for a handful of scenes whose images had even gone viral over the internet, Sony‘s The Amazing Spiderman 2will not feature the red haired love interest of Peter Parker. It is also reported that the Mary Jane‘s character will be pushed to the third instalment which is slated for a 2016 release.
However what remains unclear is even if Mary Jane is introduced in The Amazing Spiderman 3 in 2016, will Woodley still be the one playing her?
Meanwhile Woodley is focusing on her career, with the award-winning Sundance hit The Spectacular Now in theatres in August and next March opens her first franchise, Summit‘s Divergent, which already has a sequel in the works. She‘s also lined up novel adaptation The Fault In Our Stars for Fox 2000 and director Josh Boone.
