MUMBAI: Zee Telefilms Ltd (ZTL) and Mukta Arts are joining hands to make a movie, signifying a trend among companies to enter into co-production deals.
The fund size for the movie, which will feature winners of Zee's mega talent hunt for movie stars Cinestar Ki Khoj, is being finalised. While ZTL will have the telecast rights for the movie, the two companies will have a revenue share arrangement on the theatrical earnings.
"Zee and Mukta Arts are entering into a joint venture for this medium budget movie. The director and storyline for the movie are being worked out," says Mukta Arts chief executive officer Ravi Gupta.
ZTL's earlier plan was to produce the movie on its own under the supervision of noted filmmaker Sudhir Mishra. "We changed our plans and decided to involve Subhash Ghai's content company Mukta Arts. Ghai has introduced several stars before and we thought that was the best way to go ahead with the project which will have finalists of Cinestar ki Khoj as stars in the movie," says Mishra, who is a creative consultant for Zee Network.
The musical movie is aimed at a release towards the end of the year and will be made under the supervision of Ghai, adds Mishra.
Several co-production deals have sprung up as media companies are planning to de-risk their models in the movie production business. Early this year, listed companies Balaji Telefilms and Pritish Nandy Communications announced their plans to jointly produce a movie.
