MUMBAI: Sun Network has denied reports of an attack on its property in Sri Lanka. The company says the broadcast centre which was damaged in a grenade attack in North Sri Lanka doesn't belong to it.
According to a PTI report, unidentified attackers lobbed a grenade at the "re-broadcast centre" of Chennai-based Sun TV late last night near Vavuniya. The centre was run by a pro-Tamil organisation, which added its own advertisements, the report said.
"We don't have any such broadcast centre in Sri Lanka. The people who had been running the centre, might have been using our transmission equipment illegally, creating the impression that the station is run by Sun TV," clarifies Sun vice-president sales Shanmugam.
He adds that the only arrangement Sun has in Sri Lanka is with The Maharaja organisation, which runs terrestrial channels in the country. "We are part of its terrestrial platform," says Shanmugam.
