MUMBAI: When one looks at films, one genre that has grown in popularity on television has been the Hinglish film. Star Movies has enjoyed success in the recent past with its Made In India band.
It had shown films like Bend It Like Beckham, Anita And Me. In a bid to replicate the success formula, sibling Star One is hoping to achieve similar success with its Pepsi Fusion Flicks initiative.
The seven week long festival will feature films with English titles with a desi touch. The films will be showcased every Saturday and Sunday from tomorrow 19 February at 10 pm.
Star India executive VP content and communications Deepak Segal says, "Fusion is the crux of Star One programming. Our content has revolved around innovative programming concepts and stylised presentation. These English Indian movies, addressing Indian diaspora, are films that go beyond the exotic and are becoming increasingly popular.
"While most of these films have had very limited theatrical releases, the exposure they get through this telecast should be encouraging. By bringing the Pepsi Fusion Flicks we are only reiterating our intention to provide our viewers with the best."
The movies to be showcased include 3 Deewarein which airs tomorrow 19 February, Bollywood Hollywood on Sunday 20 February, Mumbai Matinee and Mr. & Mrs. Iyer.
