MUMBAI: Zee proposed and the government disposed. When the Zee Network made its request on Saturday seeking a waiver on declaration of individual channel rates in the "consumer interest", there could not have been many willing to lay any wagers on the government viewing this latest addition to the conditional access conundrum favourably.
And that proved exactly the case yesterday when the information and broadcasting ministry, without naming any channels individually, restated its earlier position that bundling would not be allowed and that there would be no going back on the notification.
Therefore as things stand now, all cable operators have to declare individual prices of channels by the CAS rollout deadline of 14 July. If they do not (or cannot), then all such channels must necessarily be blanked off cable systems post-14 July.
