Prasar Bharati to insure DD, AIR staff in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Prasar Bharati is now considering life insurance cover for its staff in the Kashmir Valley. This move has been prompted by the suicide attack attempt by militants on All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan officers on 26 April.

Prasar Bharati CEO K S Sarma who visited the Srinagar radio station to review the situation said that the life insurance matter would be taken up at the board meeting of Prasar Bharati on 8 May.

During his visit Sarma appreciated the efforts made by Kashmir's AIR station director Rafeeq Masoodi and his staff in ensuring that there were no disruptions despite a fierce gun battle being fought outside the premises on the day of the attack.

The abortive suicide attack that triggered a gun battle, left three ultras and two security personnel dead and seven security men injured. None of the Doordarshan and AIR staff was hurt in the incident.
