MUMBAI: DD Metro is gaining ground in viewership with its Formula One coverage vis - a- vis ESPN Star Sports (ESS), according to Cutting Edge Media, which handles the Formula One account. The channel airs the popular motorsport till 12 October.
Quoting TAM data for Male 15 to 44 SEC-A, B& C for All Television households for 20 April 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Cutting Edge paints an interesting picture. In terms of channel share, it says, DD Metro is ahead in 10 of the 12 centres surveyed. The difference is most appparent in the garden city of Bangalore where its share is over nine. ESS' share is well below one. ESS however holds an edge in Mumbai where its share of four is double that of DD Metro's. In Delhi, its share is marginally ahead.
Even in places like Hyderabad, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, ESS has failed to register any presence. As far as the average of the 12 centres is concerned, DD Metro's share is a touch over two, which is more than double ESS' share, which is slightly below one, the data shows.
On the TVR front, the two channels are on a level footing in Delhi. What gives the national broadcaster an edge is that in places like the Rest of Maharshtra, Hyderabad and Calcutta, ESS has failed to get on the scoreboard. The overall TVRs for both channels are well below one with DD Metro ahead overall. DD Metro fared best in the rest of the Uttar Pradesh belt with the TVR nearly reaching two. Expectedly ESS is ahead in Mumbai. On the channel share front DD Metro's is a touch above three while ESS' is 2.7. In the rest of UP DD Metro's channel share is over 18.
