MUMBAI: Ex-cricketer and actor, Salil Ankola today launched the DVD and VCD version of The Lion King, along with his wife and kids at the Oxford Bookstore in Mumbai.
Distributed solely by Excel Home Videos, for Walt Disney Home Entertainment, The Lion King DVD and VCD come with new footage and a new song Morning Report, sung by Sir Elton John according to an official release.
Released theatrically in 1994, The Lion King is the highest grossing animated film ever, achieving nearly $800 million at the box office and remains the biggest selling VHS of all times, moving over 55 million units worldwide. To date, The Lion King franchise has delivered over $ 5 billion in global retail sales.
It has won over 80 awards including six Tony Awards, five Grammys, three Golden Globes and two Oscars.
The VCD is priced at Rs 299 and a premium pack, which includes an audio CD, VCD and a calendar, at Rs 599. The DVD pack priced at Rs 1,199 includes revolutionary features on the format with all new 3D animation, created exclusively for DVD menus and games, which will provide entertainment for the whole family.
Two versions of the film are included in the pack, the original theatrical release and the new special IMAX edition with the new Elton John song.
