'Alias', 'CSI', 'Sopranos' competing at People's Choice Awards

MUMBAI: This is one awards show that is decidedly non elitist. Nominees for the 31st People's Choice Awards have been announced. Unlike the Academy Awards or The Emmies the winners are chosen by the fans.

For the first time in the show's history, all winners will be chosen by voters on the site www.pcavote.com. The site is rolling out the voting categories in two rounds. Voters can also ask for an email reminder when the next round of voting begins. The show takes place on 9 January in Los Angeles and will air on CBS in the US.

The TV drama category sees the action packed Alias going head to head with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Gilmore Girls, The O.C. and HBO's gangster saga The Sopranos.

There are three categories for the reality television genre. These are competition, makeover and other. The Amazing Race, American Idol and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy are some of the shows competing for honours.

Voters can choose their favourite female movie star from Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron who won an Oscar earlier this year and Reese Witherspoon. The two Tom's Hanks and Cruise along with George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Denzel Washington are competing in the male section.
