MUMBAI: Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific senior vice president & general manager ?South Asia Rahul Johri was conferred the "CEO of the Year" award at the Broadcasting Industry Awards organised by the World Brand Congress.
With over 19 years of experience in the industry, Rahul has worked across media verticals, from news channels, magazines and news dailies.
The award was given in recognition of Johri?s impactful strategy in establishing Discovery as the leading non-fiction media company in the country and his inspiring leadership to build a robust and varied portfolio of eight unique channels, led by the leading factual entertainment brand - the Discovery Channel.
Johri has been responsible for the company?s expansion and growth including its localisation strategy and launch of multiple language feeds across brands. His venture to launch the game changing channel in the kids genre, Discovery Kids, has received industry wide applaud. His recent initiative is Discovery?s association with India Today Group to launch Discovery Channel Magazine in India.

Johri joined Discovery in 2001 and currently leads its South Asia operations. He is responsible for the overall growth strategy of India?s highest quality factual and lifestyle portfolio including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo, Discovery HD World, Discovery Tamil and Discovery Kids.
Rahul is also credited with commissioning a range of acclaimed series including Living with a Superstar: Shah Rukh Khan, What Not to Wear: India, Oh My Gold!, and Be Blunt with Adhuna Akhtar. He also spearheaded Discovery Channel?s association with Yash Raj Films for the latest release Jab Tak Hai Jaan and with the Indian Army for its women officers? expedition to Mount Everest in 2012.

MUMBAI: Discovery Science is all set to premiere a new series titled ?How It?s Made? on 1 February.
?How it?s Made? is about appreciating the wonders behind the everyday things that many of us cannot do without.
The show will air every Monday to Friday at 9 pm.
According to the company, there are many seemingly simple things in the world that are taken for granted since they are commonplace objects. However, these ordinary items too have stories behind their existence.
Discovery Science aims to unravel such stories by providing an access inside some of the workshops and factories to witness the technology that turns raw material into finished products.
MUMBAI: Discovery Science will be bringing to its viewer?s an anthology named Designing Nature which will consist of two series - Ecopolis and Eco-Tech. Both the series offer revolutionary concepts and cutting edge technologies that might hold the key to reversing environmental destruction. Designing Nature will premier on 6 January and will be aired every Sunday at 9 pm.
The series Ecopolis explores a realistic vision of what our cities might look like by the year 2050. It provides an in-depth analysis of the possible problems in the future megacities which might be dirty, polluted, running out of food, water and fuel, and prone to blackouts. Hosted by Nobel Prize winning scientist Dr. Daniel Kammen, Ecopolis investigates the threats and evaluates merits of the model to the future city. The host also shares his views on how to reduce the carbon footprint.
Eco-Tech presents the research undertaken by scientists, chemists, biologists, geologists, engineers, and other visionaries that will transform how we power our vehicles, build our homes and offices, generate energy, manage our waste, and cope with increasingly extreme weather. For decades, scientists have been steadily gathering evidence that mankind?s current way of life cannot be sustained much longer. The series showcases amazing solutions that some of the best minds have come up with and also "how and why" these technologies work.

The 10-part series will track the ?most powerful? weapons that won wars of the past and the high-tech arms that define the battlefield of today. Combat Tech will air every Wednesday at 10 pm.
The series features the dominant and lethal military weaponry, revealing how they work, how they came to be, and how they made a difference in the theater of war. It takes an inside look at the fundamental assets on the battlefield.
Each episode explores the intriguing technology of weapons, ranging from most advanced and top secret bombers, robotic warriors, fearsome fighter jets to terrifying guns.
MUMBAI: Discovery Science is all set to premiere a show that features latest and future technologies in the military and the automobile industry.
Titled ?How Tech Works?, the show will air every night at 9 pm starting 3 December.
The 13-part series is a journey of the world where audience will get to see the inventors and innovators behind the latest technology.
