NEW DELHI:The battle against cable piracy has taken an interesting turn with a clutch of Hollywood studios alleging that the Delhi Home Cable Network owned by National Cable and Telecommunications Association's president , Vikki Choudhary is encouraging cable piracy.
Responding to a petition filed by Time Warner , Columbia, Disney Metro , Goldwyn -Mayer, Paramount , Tristar Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Universal Studios, the Delhi High Court has issued notices to the ministry of information and broadcasting and the ministry of communications. The petition has sought the cancellation of Choudhary's license.
"Government intervention is important to weed out this menace," says Counsel Chander M Lall appearing for the Hollywood Studios.
Choudhary had been earlier arrested in May this year, following a raid and seizure operation conducted by the Intellectual Property Rights cell, Economic Offences Wing and the crime branch of the Delhi Police.
