The 29th edition of the American Music Awards will be shown live on Star World on 10 January at 6:30 in the morning with a repeat telecast at 9 pm and on 13 January at 11:30 am.
The show takes place at the Shrine Auditorium where the Academy Awards have been held for many years. The host will be Sean Combs popularly known as Puff Daddy and Jenny McCarthy. The winners are decided by a national poll of 20,000 people.
Presenters include gay rock icon Melissa Etheridge, actor Chris Klein (American Pie), boy group NSYNC and actress Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (X-Men).
Artists slated to perform during the ceremony include country music group Brooks & Dunn, pop star Cher, alternative musician Kid Rock and teen sensation Britney Spears.
Country musician Garth Brooks will be given an award of merit. Moulin Rouge, American Pie 2 and Save the Last Dance are competing for best soundtrack. The nominees for favorite Male Artist Pop or Rock 'n Roll Music are Lenny Kravitz, R. Kelly and Shaggy
The nomines for Female Artist Pop or Rock 'n Roll Music are Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys and actress cum singer Jennifer Lopez. the nominees for New Artist Pop or Rock 'n Roll Music are Nelly Furtado, Alicia Keys and Lifehouse.
The nominees for Favorite Country Music Album are Brooks & Dunn for Steers & Stripes Lonestar for I'm Already There and Tim McGraw for Set This Circus Down. The nominees for Favorite Album Soul / Rhythm & Blues Music are Aaliyah's self titled album, Janet Jackson for All For You and Alicia Keys for Songs in A Minor.
