'Argo' continues awards momentum with Guild wins

Argo

MUMBAI: ‘Argo‘ has emerged as the favourite to win the Best Picture Oscar after it won the Producers Guild of America (PGA) award for best film and the Screen Actors Guild (Sag) ensemble award over the weekend.

Earlier in the month the film had won Golden Globe Awards and Critics Choice Awards for picture and director. Elsewhere ‘Lincoln‘ got two Sag awards for Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones. Anne Hathway won a supporting Sag trophy for her role in the musical ‘Les Miserables‘.

‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ which had been considered a favourite to win the Sag ensemble got just one trophy for Jennifer Lawrence.

Last year three of the four Sag winners went on to win Oscar awards. The directors Guild of America (DGA) awards are on Saturday. While Benn Affleck who made ‘Argo‘ could win that as well, he will not win the Oscar for best director as he has not been nominated.
