MUMBAI: CNN has announced that talk show host Larry King's fans around the world will be able to vote for their favourite Larry King Live interview at www.cnn.com/larry. The top five shows will then be broadcast on CNN International during the week of 9 April daily at 9:30 am, 3:30 pm and on weekends at 6:30 pm.
As Larry King prepares to celebrate five decades and more than 40,000 interviews on television and radio, CNN relives some of the classic moments in the history of the worlds most recognisable television interviewer.
CNN International senior VP Rena Golden says , "Larry King is a broadcasting legend and a CNN icon. As he celebrates such an amazing milestone we wanted to give his legions of fans around the word the opportunity to be part of this special celebration."
With many thousands of King's interviews in the CNN archive, a selection of some of his most memorable programmes are now on a special section on CNN's site, www.cnn.com/larry, to be viewed and voted on.
Some of King's most classic shows include interviews with Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher, Steve Irwin, Ronald Reagan, Marlon Brando, Michael Jordan, Ted Turner, Christopher Reeve, Bette Davis, Al Pacino, Tina Turner, Bob Hope and U.S. Presidents Nixon, Reagan, Carter, Clinton and George W. Bush.
Together with the record-breaking NAFTA debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot in 1993, which broke cable industry ratings records outside of the first night of Gulf War coverage, it obtained the highest rating in CNN history reaching more than 16.3 million viewers. Also included is King's historic, hour-long programme on the Middle East Peace process with PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, King Hussein of Jordan and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995.
Following the week of programming voted on by CNN viewers, there will be a King-Size week of Larry King Live shows including many old friends who will be full of surprises. On 18 April 2007 CNN is to air a special two-hour CNN Presents about the iconic talk show host. Larry King - Fifty Years of Pop Culture looks at the impact that King has had on the media, showbiz and politics in the past five decades. Dozens of celebrities and public figures will appear in the programme including Sean Penn, Dolly Parton, Joan Rivers, Larry King, Jr., Lionel Richie, Rudy Giuliani, Robert Wagner and Tom Brokaw.
