• Rajesh Khanna, Jaspal Bhatti awarded Padma Bhushan posthumously

    NEW DELHI: The late actor Rajesh Khanna and satirist-filmmaker Jaspal Bhatti have been named for the Padma Bhushan posthumously. Eminent filmmaker D Ramanaidu, thespian Sharmila Tagore, and eminent cricketer Rahul Dravid have also been named for the Padma Bhushan in the 64th Republic Day Honours announced late this evening.

    Dancers Kanak Rele and Saroja Vaidyanathan have also been conferred the Padma Bhushan.

    Noted playback singer S Janaki, Hindustani vocalist Abdul Rashid Khan, and noted boxer Mary Kom are among other recipients of Padma Bhushan.

    Eminent actress Sridevi who made a comeback recently with ?English Vinglish?, actor Nana Patekar, noted cinematographer-filmmaker A K Bir, filmmaker Ramesh Sippy, playback singer Sudha Malhotra, actor P. Madhavan Nair alias Madhu.

    Baul singer Purna Das Baul, the singing quintet from Raipur Bharat Bandhu, classical singer Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, stage actress and singer Jaymala Shiledar, cameraman Pablo Bartholomew, theatre director Balwant Thakur from Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Mohammad Saznawaz who is an exponent of Kashmir Sufiyana music, Hilda Mit who is a Lepcha music exponent, Sattriya dancer Ghanakanta Bora Borbayan from Assam, Surbhi Theatre Director Rekandar Nageswara Rao aliasSurabhi Babji, and theatre actor Ms B Jayashree figure in the list of Padma Shri awardees.

    From the field of sports, those getting Padma Shri are oldest Indian woman mountaineer Premlata Agrawal, medal-winning wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, paralympic high jumper Hosanagara Nagarajegowda Girisha, Olympic medalist shooter Subedar Major Vijay Kumar, boxer Ngangom Dingko Singh, and rowing gold medalist Naib Subedar Bajrang Lal Takhar.

    Fashion designer Ritu Kumar also figures in the Padma Shri list.
